Karen Ambush Thande

Karen Ambush Thande was born in Cambridge to a family with roots that extend back four generations. Her great-great-grandfather served on the 1896 committee to celebrate Cambridge’s fiftieth anniversary as a city. Raised in Worcester, Karen maintained a close connection with her Cambridge relatives and is the designated family historian and researcher. Her career in education began at the International School of Kenya and continued in the Boston Public Schools. She has a long history of philanthropic support of Kenyan primary and secondary students. She is currently serving as CBHP’s secretary, following in the footsteps of three family members who founded the predecessor organization, the Cambridge African American Heritage Alliance.
